Bardia National Park Tour Overview

Bardia National Park is the largest park in Nepal’s lowland Terai. It sits in the Western Terai and protects representative ecosystems while conserving tigers and their prey species. The park covers 968 sq. km. and lies in western Nepal’s Terai region. It remains an undisturbed wilderness and mostly consists of sal forest sprinkled with tall grasslands. The Churia Hills form its northern boundary, and the Geruwa River skirts it on the west. You have the highest chances of spotting a tiger in Nepal in this area. You can also find rhinoceros, swamp deer, leopards, jungle cats, blue bulls, sloth bears, barking deer, and langurs. A few wild elephants live here, and some of the male’s rank among the largest in Asia.

Journey into the Heart of the Jungle

The adventure usually begins with a scenic drive or flight to Nepalgunj, followed by a transfer to the park area. When you enter the park, dense sal forests, grasslands, and winding rivers greet you. Unlike crowded Chitwan, Bardia offers a more peaceful and authentic wildlife experience.

Rich Wildlife Encounters

During your tour, you will enjoy thrilling jungle activities such as jeep safaris, nature walks, elephant safaris, and birdwatching excursions. The park hosts the Royal Bengal tiger, one-horned rhinoceros, Asian elephants, gangetic dolphins, and over 400 species of birds. Every moment spent in the jungle fills you with anticipation and awe.

Cultural Connection with the Tharu People

Besides wildlife, this tour also highlights cultural immersion. The indigenous Tharu community, known for their unique customs, dance, and traditional homes, warmly welcomes visitors. When you visit a Tharu village, you can learn about their harmonious relationship with nature and their age-old lifestyle.

Best Time to Visit Bardia National Park

Although you can visit Bardia throughout the year, most people consider October to March the ideal time to go. During this period, you will typically experience pleasant weather, and you can often spot wildlife more frequently. Moreover, as the dry months progress, animals tend to gather near water sources, which increases your chances of seeing elusive species such as tigers. Consequently, if you hope to witness diverse wildlife in comfortable weather, this season is highly recommended.

A Peaceful Alternative to Chitwan

Most travelers consider October to March the best time to explore Bardia. During this period, the weather stays pleasant, and clearer visibility along with comfortable temperatures often enhances wildlife sightings. Furthermore, as the dry season progresses, animals naturally gather near nearby water sources, which increases your chances of encountering elusive species such as tigers. Therefore, for a rewarding and memorable safari, plan your visit during these months.
